Whether you're a casual gamer or a hardcore gaming addict, you deserve the best gaming experience possible. Here are five easy ways to have a better gaming experience.
1) Get rid of all distractions.
Turn off your cell phone. Put the dog in the yard. If you're married, give your spouse and kids your credit cards and send them on a shopping trip. Close all the curtains and encircle your house with police tape. This is your alone time, you don't want to be reminded that there's a "real world" out there! All that exists right now is you and that ogre you're decapitating. Bliss.
2) Adjust your monitor and lighting.
Different tasks require different monitor settings. Before playing, adjust your monitor's brightness and contrast to a setting that's most comfortable for you. Try settings with the lights in your gaming room on or off, to find what's best. Good lighting reduces eyestrain, allowing you to play longer.Playing with the lights on or off can enhance your gaming experience. For example, I prefer to play dungeons and darker games with the lights off. Zombies just aren't as much fun in broad daylight. On the other hand, a beach volleyball game needs bright lighting.
3) Turn the sound waaaaaay up.
You want to hear every pop, slash, and boom! When you advance to the next level or defeat an enemy, the sound celebrates your accomplishment. Victory music and sound effects keep you immersed in the online world, and total immersion is necessary for a great gaming experience.
4) Talk to yourself.
You know you want to, and as long as you're not playing a game where other people can hear you talking to yourself, do it! Games are about blowing off steam, and if you feel the need to call that area boss you can't seem to beat a [insert string of dirty words here], go ahead! Just make sure your mic is turned off and no impressionable young children are within earshot.
5 Do whatever you want online (within reason).
This is my favorite thing about playing online games: doing stuff I could and would never do in real life. Annoy people. Talk too much. Say a bunch of things that make no sense, and then run away. Burn small, defenseless animals and steal old ladies' walking canes. Make up your own language and get angry at people who don't understand what you're saying. There's lots of fun to be had doing stuff online that you wouldn't dream of doing in real life, and acting like an idiot can be very relaxing.Just remember to not lower the quality of other player's gaming experiences (too much), and never break the game's rules, get yourself banned, or do anything illegal.
With these somewhat useful tips, I hope you'll have a much better gaming experience the next time you play. Game on!
